Born Kapuaiho’oleiiaikapono Aluli Souza and raised in Hawai’i on the island of O’ahu. Kapono comes from a long, well known line of gifted practitioners in music, arts, and healing. At a very early age, his tutu wahine (grandmother) on his maternal side Irmgard Keali’iwahinealohanohokahaopuamana Farden recognized his talent for massage and shared with him our traditional art of healing called Lomilomi. For many Hawaiian families, traditional knowledge and cultural practices were passed down through family lines.
To ensure continuity, it was not uncommon to have an eligible family member be given the kuleana (responsibility) to perpetuate the practices of their ancestors to benefit the next generation. Today, Kapono continues to represents the current genealogical line of his ‘Ohana and shares some of our traditional ‘ike (knowledge) to a new generation of students. With over 20 years of experience as a practitioner and professional therapist, he is among some of the most innovative martial bodyworkers today in Hawai’i.
